Smoker No More: How To Let Your Furniture Know

One of the biggest challenges of being a smoker is how the smell of cigarettes gets into everything. The smell of cigarettes is almost noticeable immediately when you enter the house of a smoker because it can get into the furniture, curtains, and clothes. With regard to clothes and curtains, the solution can be as simple as an intense wash. However, furniture poses a different challenge.

When you've given up smoking and would like to finally get rid of the smell of cigarettes from your furniture, there a number of approaches you can take.

Air Them Out

There's nothing like a breath of fresh air to get rid of the smell of cigarettes naturally. Airing out your furniture is a great way to get rid of various smells including that of cigarettes. You can decide to either put the furniture outside or in a garage like space where they can be shielded from the elements while still being able to get blasted by some air. You should also air out the room in which the furniture was since the smell might still be in the air. Turn on the ceiling fan and open windows.

Try a Few Home Remedies

There are a number of home remedies that you can try to get rid of cigarette smell from upholstered furniture. These include:

  • Baking Soda

  • Coffee grounds

  • Vinegar and water solution

Baking soda and coffee grounds can be sprinkled on the furniture. These substances are known to absorb odors and are known to work against cigarette smoke. Baking soda can be changed every 24 hours until the smell is no more.

A 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water can also be used to wipe down the furniture. The vinegar can remove the odors quite well. However, you'll need to do this outside to keep out the pungent smell of vinegar and to allow for effective drying.

Using Commercial Products

There are various commercial odor removers that you can also use to get rid of cigarette smoke from furniture. The advantage of using these commercial products is that they get rid of the odors almost immediately. When you don't have time to air out your furniture or wait for the coffee grounds to work, these are a good choice.

Alternatively, you can also ask about professional upholstery services especially when everything else you've tried has failed to work. With a professional service, there is no chance of failure.
